The Cedartown Middle School Bulldogs basketball team will enter the final game of the regular season with momentum, thanks to Walker Barrow and a strong defensive play.

Playing Coosa on Monday in a make-up game, the Bulldogs battled the Eagles down to the wire before winning 28-26.

With the game tied at 26, Barrow converted a shot with only seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs a two-point advantage. After a missed free throw, the Eagles grabbed the ball and had one final chance to tie or win the game. However, strong defensive pressure from the Bulldogs kept the Eagles from getting a shot off.

The win helped Cedartown build some momentum after suffering a tough double digit loss to Rockmart on Saturday.

Cedartown, who has six wins and seven losses on the season, will now play at Model on Thursday in the final regular season game before participating in the postseason tournament.

In previous games leading, the young Bulldogs had received mixed results.

On Monday, Jan. 21, the Bulldogs defeated Chattooga 48-32, avenging an earlier loss to the Indians. Assistant coach Bill Ellis stated it was the Bulldogs best game so far.

But on Thursday, Jan. 24 the Bulldogs fell to Armuchee by double digits. Cedartown then dropped their second straight game, falling to their Polk County rivals, before bouncing back for a dramatic win over Coosa.

After playing Model Thursday, Cedartown will participate in the postseason tournament on Monday, Feb. 4 in the Darlington gym.

The semifinal round will be played on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Pepperell.

The league championship game will be Saturday, Feb. 9 at Model.
