For the sixth straight season, the Cedartown Bulldogs football team has finished the season with a losing record.
This year, Cedartown won their season opener but managed only one other win all year as they went a disappointing 2-8.
The following is highlights from each game:
CHS 13, Rockmart 7
Like nearly all of the Battle of Polk County games, this one came down to the wire.
With the contest tied at 7-7 at the end of regulation, Cedartown struck first in overtime when Hayden Privett snuck the ball in from one-yard out on third-and-goal. The extra point was blocked, leaving the score at 13-7.
Rockmart would move the ball on their overtime possession and had a first-and-goal on the four-yard line. But the Yellow Jackets would fumble the ball and Cedartown’s Avery Privett recovered to seal the win and send the Bulldog faithful into a frenzy.
The elder Privett led Cedartown’s offense with 68 yards rushing and Dishon Glanton added 41.
Pepperell 45, CHS 13
The Bulldog’s run defense was exposed in this non-region game as the Dragons ran for 313 yards and amassed 455 yards of total offense.
Pepperell's Marcus Jackson ran for 169 yards on 10 carries, including taking the Dragons first offensive play 58 yards up the middle for a touchdown. The senior finished with four touchdowns on the night.
Freshman Dragon Janier Ferguson joined in on the fun as well, jaunting for 137 yards on 11 carries and scoring twice.
Privett did have success in the air in this game, completing 20-of-31 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown.
Coosa 23, CHS 6
Perhaps the most disappointing game of the season for Cedartown was this one. Playing a Coosa team that Cedartown clearly could beat, the Bulldogs just didn’t show up and was embarrassed 23-6 by the Class AA school.
Cedartown had only 12 yards at halftime and finished the game with 88 total yards. The Bulldogs had nearly as many punts (six) as first downs (eight). As a matter of fact, Cedartown had only two yards rushing at halftime and if it wasn’t for an 18-yard run by Brooklyn Cotton and a 24-yard touchdown catch by Marquis Thomas in the second half, Cedartown would have finished with less than 50 yards in the game.
Coosa had one player - Coty Dodson - who ran for more yards in this non-region game than Cedartown had as a team. Dodson ran for 112 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.
Chattooga 28, CHS 21
For as bad as Cedartown played in the Coosa game, they played that well in the game against the speedy, powerful Indians.
Cedartown came out in the double-wing, triple-option offense that they ran a year ago and that caught the Indians off guard. The Bulldogs took 8:21 off the clock on their opening drive while putting together 13 plays.
But two penalties and a sack moved Cedartown from the Indians 7-yard line back to the 21.
The Indians were then able to force a turnover on downs. Still, the Bulldogs had set the tone that they were going to play hard this game.
Eventually the Indians were able to seal the game early in the fourth quarter when Senorise Perry took a pass from Rashad Ramsey 18 yards to paydirt. However, this was still one of the best games that the Bulldogs played all year and it came on their Homecoming night.
