More than 370 Shorter University freshmen along with a handful of upperclassmen took part in the university’s annual community service project.

Named “Hawks Hit Home: Stamping Our Corner of the World,” the project placed students in the Rome community Friday morning to lend a helping hand to local organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Rome Action Ministries.

A group of nearly 40 students helped Habitat for Humanity by prepping a home on Branham Avenue for an upcoming exterior painting job.

More than 40 students spent the morning at Rome Action Ministries putting together food bags for the Rome community’s annual Jesus in the Park event.

Another large group of students participated in the Silver Creek Restoration Project working to clear trash and heavy underbrush from the banks of the creek.
