East Ave. was blocked Friday as crews worked to put out a vehicle fire.

Cedartown Fire responded to a location at Martiele St. and East Ave. to find a 1982 Ford Econoline van ablaze in the middle of Martiele St.

Officials said the fire was fully involved when they arrived, and they blocked eastbound lane as a safety precaution. Police directed traffic until the scene could be secured around 3:30 p.m.

The owner of the van was not injured. Firefighters said he was involved in landscaping and had his grass-cutting equipment in the van when it caught fire. Crews determined it to be a total loss.
