Mr. Garner was born in Cedartown on Nov. 30, 1942 to the late Mr. James Steve Garner and Mrs. Thelma Inez Keown Garner. He was an assemblyman, employed in the auto industry with General Motors. He was a member of Beulahland Baptist Church and a member of the Beulah Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Garner; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Phil (Rhonda) Blissitt of Alabama, Mr. and Mrs. Greg (Melanie) Savico of Indiana, and Mr. and Mrs. David (Valerie) Wright of Cedartown; mother, Mrs. Inez Garner of Rockmart; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. David (Lucille) Canik of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Orell (Gail) Garner, Reverend and Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Garner, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil (Anna) Garner, all of Rockmart; eight grandchildren, eightgreat-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James Steve Garner who passed away in 1980; two brothers, Mr. Kenneth Garner and Mr. Kim Garner; an infant son, Shane Robert Garner and an infant daughter, Belinda Garner.
The funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in Beulahland Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Garner officiating. Interment was in Beulahland Baptist Church Cemetery.
David Wright, Phil Blissitt, Cody Blissitt, Kipp Frady, Ethan Landry and Brian Reece were pallbearers.
The Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home of Dallas, handled the arrangements.
