Racers finish 2008 5K; residents line streets to cheer athletes on

In the above photo, racers in the Men’s Open begin the 3.1 mile course on College Street for the 2008 Cedartown 5K. Edith Hunkeler (Switzerland) finished first in the Women’s Open with a time of 11 minutes and 29 seconds. Christie Dawes (Australia) finished second and Sandra Graf (Switzerland) placed third. In the Men’s Quad, Santiago Sanz (Spain) finished first with a time of 12 minutes and three seconds and Duane Morrow (Hoschton, Ga.) placed second. In the Men’s Open, Kurt Fearnley (Australia) finished first with a time of nine minutes and 45 seconds. Marcel Hug (Switzerland) finished second and Aaron Gordian (Mexico) placed third. Krige Schabort (Cedartown, originally from South Africa) placed fourth in the race.
