The Georgia Legislature sought communities to take over the operations of the sports hall and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame after deciding to discontinue state funding.
Macon and Athens were the only cities eligible to submit a proposal for the sports hall. Macon was the only bidder by the Dec. 31 deadline.
The sports hall authority's board voted unanimously on Wednesday to accept the proposal from Halls of Fame Inc., a public-private partnership in Macon.
The selection still needs state approval, but the authority says the Macon bid exceeds requirements.
