The comments Friday before the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee reflected a wide variety of viewpoints on a bill proposed by state Rep. Matt Ramsey, a Peachtree City Republican.
Some spoke out in support of the bill, saying the state needs to take more active measures against illegal immigration and urging legislators to vote to approve it.
Others opposed the bill, saying it would lead to racial profiling and could have unintended negative consequences.
Ramsey has said his bill is a work in progress and that adjustments are likely before the committee votes on it.
