Rockmart's tornado siren sounded at 8:16 p.m. as a powerful thunderstorm moved through the area.

The siren sounded a few minutes, then cut off around 8:21 p.m.

The siren resumed its warning at 8:30 p.m. as high winds continued to move through the community.

Local residents are advised to remain indoors until the storm has fully passed.

Polk County remains under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. The storm system moving through the area is part of the same system that produced confirmed tornadoes in the Birmingham, Ala. area.

A wind advisory is also in effect.
