Stock futures are rising in premarket trading a day after higher oil prices gave the market its first gain this week.

The Labor Department reports later Thursday morning on the number of people who applied for unemployment benefits last week. Economists expect the number to decrease for a third week.

The Commerce Department will also issue its second of three estimates for economic growth during the first three months of the year. The number is expected to be revised upward after companies reported stronger earnings in March.

Ahead of the opening bell, Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 20 points, or 0.2 percent, at 12,371. Standard & Poor's 500 futures are up 2, or 0.2 percent, at 1,319. Nasdaq 100 futures are up 1 at 2,311.
