Preston Hooper, 2 1/2-years-old, drowned in a neighbor's swimming pool at 100 Pea Ridge Road, Rockmart, according to Coroner Lester Litesey.
Hooper was the toddler son of Stacy Hooper of 230 Pea Ridge Road, Rockmart, and of Lyndon Noel of Cartersville.
Litesy said an autopsy is being done by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) in accordance with state law that mandates autopsies in deaths of children 7-years-old and younger.
The Polk County Police Department is continuing in the investigation.
Update noon: The Polk County Police Department is considering the death of a Polk County toddler an active investigation, according to the incident report.
According to the report, the incident happened at 100 Pea Ridge Road, Rockmart, where police were called around 10 p.m. Thursday night to a reported drowning of a child.
The report lists the incident as an unattended death, but doesn't list the name, age, or gender of the child or the name of the child's parents.
Police are talking with two witnesses about the incident.

Assistant Coroner Tony Brazier confirmed the death this morning, but said there are few details about the incident at this time. The case is being handled by the coroner, he said.
The incident occurred on Pea Ridge Road, but an exact address isn't yet confirmed. The Polk County Police Department is handling the investigation. No one at the PCPD is immediately available for additional information.
