The board voted last year to reduce the number of districts in Polk County from nine to seven as part of required process to adjust district lines every 10 years based on census data.
The redistricting only affects which school board members are voted on in each district and does not change where a child goes to school.
The new map for board member districts must now go through the State Legislature as a local bill as well as be approved by the Justice Department.
The new maps will eliminate the districts currently held by Board members Chuck Thaxton and Tara O'Neil in 2013, and put the new seven districts on a staggered voting system, Mike York, attorney for the Polk School District said.
"Basically you've approved the seven member board, but one thing that came up last week was the current numbering of the system," York explained.
A system of numbering the newly drawn districts from one to seven from left to right as the simplest solution was put in motion to the board.
The motion was approved by unanimous vote.
