The Cedartown Xtreme All-Star squad proved that they belong in the latter category, as they dominated their three games recently en route to the GRPA District 5 12-and-under tournament championship.
The Xtreme, made up of players from the local recreation league, won their three games by an aggregated score of 46-0.
The Cedartown team competed in the GRPA District tournament in Murray County during the week of June 18-23. In the opening game, the Xtreme strolled past the Murray County All-Stars 16-0.
Laura-Ashlee Tillery pitched the entire game.
“The ladies would come out playing great defense, making hits, and being aggressive on the bases,” head coach Shane Lee said.
In the next contest, the Xtreme steamrolled the Gilmer County All-Stars 15-0.
“Lizzie Lee would pitch a complete game shut out,” Lee said. “We would control the game with big hits and defense.”
In the championship game, the Xtreme capped their dominant tournament performance by whipping Gilmer County 15-0.
“We would get great pitching from Laura-Ashlee Tillery and Lizzie Lee,” Lee said. “We had big hits and defensive plays to keep Gilmer off the scoreboard.”
The Xtreme won the GRPA District title for the third year in a row.
This week, the Cedartown club is playing in the GRPA State Championship tournament in Dublin. The tournament is scheduled to run from July 10-14.
“This is a special group of young ladies and coaches,” Lee said. “We have all supported and been apart of the local recreation program this year and for many years prior to this season. They represent Cedartown with class and integrity on and off the field. We could not be prouder of a group of girls than we are of this team.”
Members of the team are Kassidi Ward, Tamara Brown, Makenzy Youngblood, Lauren Lindsey, Halee Blackmon, Amber Timms, Ally Dodd, Katrina Harris, Laura-Ashlee Tillery, Skylar Rogers, and Lizzie Lee.
Shane Lee is the manager and the assistant coaches are Todd Tillery, Junior Timms, Timmy Little, and Tim Brown.
