Rockmart High School graduate Brandon Haywood was able to do something Thursday night that not many people ever get to do. He played a collegiate football game in front of a nationally televised audience.

Haywood, the starting quarterback at Carson-Newman, led his team onto the field Thursday to play against Wingate on CBS Sports Network.

Despite a valiant effort, the Eagles lost to the Bulldogs 33-24.

Haywood ran for two touchdowns in the game, both in the first quarter. His first touchdown run covered five yards and his second scamper was 21 yards. For the game, Haywood had 17 carries for 39 yards. He also completed 7-of-14 passes for 176 yards, with a long pass of 60 yards.

Carson-Newman is now 2-2 on the season. They will visit Catawba on Saturday, Oct. 6 before hosting North Greenville for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 13.
