ROME -- Harbin Clinic has pledged $25,000 of general support for Shorter College's Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program. The pledge is payable at $5,000 per year over the next five years.

"Rome's thriving healthcare community will be an integral part of the success of Shorter College's nursing program, and the Harbin Clinic is a vital part of that healthcare community," said Dr. Harold E. Newman, president of the college. "We are grateful for this important vote of confidence in our efforts from the Harbin Clinic and appreciate their investment in the nursing program. We look forward to continuing to partner with them as the program develops."

"Harbin Clinic is proud to help support Shorter College in their new nursing program. Harbin depends on our local colleges to help provide well-trained medical staff to an increasingly large healthcare community, and we are pleased that Shorter will be able to help fill the community's need. Harbin Clinic is confident Shorter College will succeed in this new nursing program as it has in others." Dr. Ken Davis, president and CEO, Harbin Clinic

In February, Shorter College announced its plans to submit a proposal to the Georgia Board of Nursing for approval to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The state nursing board granted "developmental approval" for the proposal at its March meeting, giving the college the authorization to proceed with developing the BSN degree program. Dr. Vanice W. Roberts, a 30-year veteran of Kennesaw State University's nursing faculty, has been hired to serve as Shorter's first dean of the School of Nursing.

Individuals interested in pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Shorter College are asked to e-mail nursing.students@shorter.edu or contact Dr. John Head at 706-233-7342. Potential nursing faculty members who are interested in learning more about the program may e-mail nursing.faculty@shorter.edu or contact Shorter College Provost Dr. Craig Shull at 706-233-7203.
