Floats featuring the theme “The Hope of Christmas” will highlight the 2012 Rockmart Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3. The rain date will be Tuesday, Dec. 4.

A panel of judges will select winners with first place receiving $500; second, $300 and third, $200 in both the church and school / non-profit categories.

Santa will be showcased during the annual event, which traditionally kicks off the holiday season.

Crowds are expected to line the streets as they wait to see the red suited man from North Pole. He is scheduled to stop in front of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce building.

Families – from baby to grandparents – can watch the parade as participants travel the usual route from Rockmart Municipal Complex (old high school), down Piedmont Avenue, right on Elm and left at Marble Street.

Once downtown, bands will not go up Church Street but will travel down Marble, left to Maple and then to Slate Street. All other parade participants will continue and disband at the former Elm Street Middle School, 100 Morgan Valley Road.

This year, members of the military will be recognized as the grand marshal. A number of veterans have been invited.
