In Hall County, the system's superintendent worked with the county sheriff to assign 33 deputies to the district's 33 schools for the first day back.
In Gwinnett County, police said officers were being assigned to schools to help prevent any type of copy-cat crime after the Connecticut shooting.
Hall County Superintendent William Schofield tells WSB-TV that school officials knew Wednesday, the day students there returned after the holiday break, would be a nervous day for parents when they brought their children to school.
