Tuesday night was the first meeting for the new, seven-member Polk School District Board of Education.

School board policy dictates that a new chairman, vice chairman and the school board attorney be selected at the beginning of each calendar year.

Board member Harold McDurmon nominated Jane Holbrooks for board chair. Holbrook accepted the nominated and was voted in unanimously. Grady McCrickard was then nominated as vice chair and was also voted in unanimously.

Holbrooks moved to waive committee appointments until she had time to speak with individual board members.

The board then voted to waive the appointment of an attorney until the contract could be reviews. Current attorney Mike York will continue to serve until a new vote is held, according to Board member Tommy Sanders.

The 2013 calendar for board meetings was set in unanimous vote with community input sessions scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month and regular session meetings on the second Tuesday.

Also on the agenda was the appointment of Sherri Cox to the Sara Hightower Library regional board and declaring a number of outdated and broken electronic equipment surplus. Both recommendations passed in unanimous votes.
