A loud noise that could be heard in central Polk County Saturday night doesn’t appear to have been anything serious.

Polk County 911 reported that they had received a couple of calls from the Fish Creek area regarding a loud ‘boom’ in the area.

An officer was sent to check out the area but was unable to locate anything suspicious.

While authorities don’t know what the noise might have been, similar experiences in the past have turned out to possibly be a sonic boom from a passing military aircraft.

Discussions on Facebook and online chat boards said the noise occurred around 9:30 p.m.

I live in Dawsonville and heard a boom just before 7:30pm. Neighbor across street heard it as well as her friend who lives approximately 5 miles away! Sounded like a long roll of very loud thunder or an explosion with a metallic sound. Very strange.
