The 18th annual Doc Ayers-Ray Beck Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held this year on Friday, May 15 at the Cherokee Golf and Country Club in Cedartown.

“Set your calendar,” said Ayers, who was not only the Head Coach at Cedartown High School but also coached at the University of Georgia. “It is going to be a fun day.”

The tournament is being held to benefit the Polk County Community Foundation, Inc. Last year, the Ayers-Beck tournament raised $45,000 for Polk County. In their 17 years of doing the tournament, the organization has raised over $250,000.

Registration is now under way for players and teams. The cost to enter is $125 per player and six players may play on a team. This year, only 30 teams will be accepted for play. The tournament committee will not accept telephone calls for registration confirmation.

“Sign-up early,” said Ayers. “We will have many NFL, College and Georgia Hall of Fame members on hand.”

As always, Olin Gammage and his team were the first to sign-up to play.

“Olin has been the first to sign-up for many years,” stated Ayers. “The second team to enter this year was Tera Frasier. Tera has just taken up golf but is still out to win the tournament.”

A hole-in-one contest will be held by Riverside Auto Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac and anyone making a hole-in-one on a certain hole will be winning a car donated by Riverside Auto Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac.

A silent auction will also be held and other prizes will be given away during a par three competition, a closest to the pin competition and door prizes will be given away throughout the day.

Lunch will be prepared by Dean Timmons and Wallace Barbecue.

This year a shotgun start will be held at 11 a.m. Early check-in will be held from 9-10 a.m. and guides will assist all players with parking, bag drop off, cart pick-up and registration.

“If for some reason you can’t play, then purchase a hole with your name on it and it will be displayed on the course,” said Ayers. “Signs are $100 and remember, the money will stay in Polk County.”

The 2009 Honorary Celebrity Chairs will be Wendell Couch and Dean Timmons.

Sponsoring the event this spring will be ETC of Georgia, LLC; Johnson Printing Company, Inc.; Larry Kuglar; Holiday Inn Express; Harold and Jane Wyatt; The Kroger Company; Reece Barrett; First National Bank of Polk County; Wendell Couch; Riverside Auto Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac; Miles Gammage; McBrayer Furniture; Cohutta Water; Coca Cola of Rome; Wallace BBQ; Andrews Wrecker Company; Cedar Stream Company; Ken Wood and Tobin Ayers of Merrill Lynch and the Burgess Insurance Company.
