“The awards include the Rotary International President's Citation, the Georgia District Governor's Citation, Gold Award for our Aids Awareness Project, and the Literacy Award,” said Larry Collier, club president.
The Presidential Citation recognizes clubs with outstanding involvement in the four avenues of Rotary Service including club, vocational, community and international, along with membership development.
The Governor's Citation is received by clubs which complete activities in literacy, clean water, health and hunger, Family of Rotary and membership.
Since 1998, Georgia Rotary Clubs in alliance with Aid Atlanta have sponsored Aids awareness and education programs for middle and high school students.
The Rockmart/Polk County Rotary Club won top honors for its Aids Awareness Day sponsored each year in cooperation with Rockmart and Cedartown Middle Schools.
Two speakers from Aid Atlanta spend the day in Polk County, talking at Cedartown in the morning and Rockmart in the afternoon. They also present a program at the weekly Rotary meeting.
Several literacy projects throughout the year earned a Literacy Award for the club.
