At the end of the season, Little League will play Rockmart in the annual Polk County Championships. The other week, May 27 through May 31, saw the 11-12 year old Major League take center stage.
The Rangers slugged their way to a win over the Pirates, 14-4 in one contest. Ethan Ritter led the Pirates though by going 2-for-3 on the day.
The Yankees outlasted the Cardinal’s by a score of 10-9 in seven innings. The game ended when Adam Short connected for a hit to drive in Zack Cannon for the winning run. Cannon finished the contest by going 3-for-4.
The Yankees also grabbed another notch in the win column that same week when they handed the Pirates a 6-3 defeat. Craig Womack led the assault by going 3-for-4.
Like the rest of the leagues the 9-10 year olds are now beginning to wrap up their season.
On Tuesday, June 11 the Red Sox’s do battle with the White Sox’s at 6 p.m. while the Diamondbacks play the Giants at 8 p.m.
On Thursday, June 13 in the regular season finales. The A’s play the Red Sox’s at 6 p.m. while the Braves play the Giants at 8 p.m.
As of June 5 the Giants were in first place with a blistering record of 15-1-0 while the Mariners set in second with a 12-5-1 record.
Following them are the A’s 10-4-1, White Sox’s 10-7-0, and the Diamondbacks 9-7-2. The latter part of the league consists of the Red Sox’s, Pirates, and Braves.
The annual Polk County Championships will be held June 14 and 15 at the Rockmart and Cedartown Little League fields. Game times have not yet been announced.
