A Polk County teenager accused of murder was indicted last week.

A Polk grand jury indicted 18-year-old Randy Felicianna “Worm” McClarity Jr., of 306 Thompson St., on charges of murder and aggravated assault on Monday, Oct. 13, according to District Attorney Don Wilson.

The District Attorney said he hopes McClarity’s case will go before a jury in Superior Court later this year. “Hopefully,” Wilson said, “we’ll have everything in order and try him the week of Nov. 10. If we don’t reach it by then, we’ve got another week of court cases Dec. 10.”

The suspect will remain in the Polk County jail until his trial.

McClarity is the second Polk County teenage murder suspect indicted by a Polk grand jury this year. In July, 15-year-old Ryan Scott McCrickard was indicted on murder charges following the shooting death of Rockmart’s William Lucas, 51.

Det. Ricky Clark, lead investigator on the case, said he is hopeful the trial will result in a conviction. “I think we’ve got a strong case on him [McClarity],” Clark said. “Personally, I hope we [get a conviction], but that’ll be up to a jury.”

On June 22, 21-year-old Calvin Lamar Dorsey and Miesha Alexander, 24, were shot by the suspected gunman, McClarity, who was later identified by numerous bystanders. “The witnesses identified him in a photo lineup,” Polk Police Cpt. Ray Sullivan said.

Alexander was reportedly shot and killed by a stray bullet while sitting in a parked car outside the Stardust Lounge. “She [Alexander] was an innocent bystander,” Sullivan previously stated.

The incident allegedly began with an argument between McClarity and Dorsey at the Cedartown nightclub.

Dorsey, allegedly the intended victim, was wounded, but survived his injuries after a brief hospital stay.

Three days after the shooting, McClarity turned himself in to police on Wednesday, June 25.

Sullivan noted that McClarity had been in contact with Polk investigators before his arrest. “He and his family were worried about his safety, so he agreed to turn himself over to us and the GBI,” the police captain said. “He was brought in and allowed to speak with his grandmother for 10 minutes as he had requested. “We don’t know if they were worried about the cops or what. I guess there’s always a possibility of a retaliatory strike.”

Since his arrest, the suspect reportedly has not spoken with investigators, choosing instead to wait until his case is brought before the court.

Earlier this year, McClarity was arrested on aggravated assault and battery charges. On Thursday, March 27, he was arrested in Cedartown following a shooting incident.

On that day, Antijuan Carter, 29, was shot several times in the left leg after a reported dispute with McClarity. Carter survived his injuries and indicated McClarity in that case, although those charges have not yet been presented to the court.

Of the eight murders being investigated by Polk detectives, McClarity and McCrickard are two of four suspects to have been arrested, the others being Billy Don Sims, 19, of Piedmont Hwy, and Jamey Ryan Studdard, 32, of Piedmont, Ala., who were accused of murdering Derek and Brent Clemons in July.
