A 23-year-old Cedartown woman has died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident that took place last Tuesday evening on Cason (Antioch) Road.

Jessica Robinson, of Morris Drive, passed away at Chattanooga’s Erlanger Hospital Wednesday morning, June 8.

She was riding in a 1985 GMC van driven by Cedartown resident James Henry Phillip, of a Tuck Street address.

The Georgia State Patrol reports state that Phillip, 25, was driving south on Antioch Road. The vehicle then left the roadway on the west shoulder and traveled approximately 48 feet before crossing a private drive.

Reports state the vehicle vaulted 23 feet, landed in a yard and slid sideways for approximately 101 feet.

The right side tires struck the edge of a nearby driveway and the van slid across the driveway 18 feet before hitting a large tree.

The van struck the tree near the passenger side door, and then spun counterclockwise before stopping.

Phillip was injured during the accident and Robinson was airlifted to Floyd Medical Center, then transferred to Erlanger Hospital where she later died.

According to a Georgia State Patrol report, Phillip told a Georgia State Trooper that he and Robinson were arguing and she grabbed and jerked the steering wheel causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
