According to Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier, 74-year-old Joyce Chambers passed away Monday evening at Grady Memorial Hospital due to critical head and chest injuries sustained in the accident.
Brazier said the accident took place around 4 p.m. in Rockmart, at the intersection of Highway 278 and 113. Chambers vehicle was struck in the drivers side door by another vehicle driven by Annette Foster, no address given.
According to Brazier, Chambers was critically injured at the scene of the accident and Polk EMS and the Rockmart Fire Department did as much as they could to stabilize her there.
Chambers was then life-flighted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and later died at 9 p.m. from head and chest injuries.
Rockmart Police Chief Larry Harris said that criminal charges could be made against Foster in the accident case. She was cited for running a red light and were possibly looking at a vehicular homicide charge. But we dont know anything for certain. That is all pending on an investigation.
Foster was injured in the accident and was transported by EMS to Floyd Medical Center.
