Downtown Rockmart was a bustle of activity this morning as the Georgia Rails Into Trails Society Inc. (GRITS) launched its annual Rockmart Silver Comet Trail Labor Day Bike Ride.

Some 203 people had preregistered for the event, but the numbers appeared to be approaching 300 as the first two events of the morning got under way.

This marked the eighth annual Labor Day ride.

Four different rides were offered this year, varying in distance from 13 miles to 100 miles.

Registration began at 7:30 a.m. at the Seaborn Jones Memorial Park in Rockmart with scattered starting times for the rides beginning at 8:30.
