The sign is up at the West Elm Street location of Floyd Medical Center's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations in Polk County.

The other location is near Wal-Mart on Highway 278 (Nathan Dean Parkway).

A new ambulance is to be placed at each site, according to M. L. "Bud" Owens, director of Floyd EMS.

On July 1, Redmond Medical Center assumed operation of EMS services after being awarded

a contract by the Polk County Board of Commissioners.

However, Polk retained ownership of the

county’s zone, which allows for more than one EMS provider.

“Any resident of Polk can dial 911 and request a Floyd ambulance,” Owens said. “It is that simple. We hope to offer ambulance service at a much lower cost than our competition.”
