Polk Co. GED graduation scheduled for Sept 24
The 30th annual GED® Graduation and Awards Ceremony for Polk County will be held on September 24, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Polk County Campus of Georgia Northwestern Technical College. GED® Graduates from school year 2008-2009 are invited to participate in this traditional cap and gown ceremony, followed by a reception for graduates, their families, and guests. Letters with graduation information have been sent to graduates.
For twenty of the last thirty years, the Adult Education Program and the GED® Testing Center have been administered under the auspices of Georgia Northwestern Technical College (until recently named Coosa Valley Technical College). Previous to July of 1989, the area programs were administered through Polk School District. Polk’s GED® Graduation events were originally held at the Woman’s Building in Cedartown; then Cedartown High School and the First Baptist Church before moving to the technical college campus.
GNTC President Craig McDaniel will address the graduates and preside over the ceremony. The theme of this year’s event is “The Tradition Continues”. Special awards will include the Cedar Valley Education Foundation Awards for high honors in GED® Testing and the Congressional Citizenship Awards. For information, call the Adult Learning Center at 770-684-7521.
