Additional school counselors are at Cedartown Middle School today to help students deal with the death of a seventh-grader.

Wyatt Pilgrim, 12, died Sunday at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, according to a death notice sent out by a local funeral home this morning.

He had sustained injuries after a Polk County School bus struck him Sept. 9.

“Additional counselors are going to Cedartown Middle School today and they are working with stu-dents here,” said Buddy Harrison, director of student services for the Polk County School System.

“They are working to assist in counseling and working with the family. They are doing this at this time,” he said.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. as Pilgrim waited for his bus near his home on Evergreen Lane. Cedartown police have determined that Pilgrim ran into the street in front of the bus.

Pilgrim was airlifted to the Atlanta hospital as a trauma patient.

The school bus driver is not being charged, according to police.
