This year’s Rockmart Middle School wrestling team has come out with a double roster size from last year, putting this year’s team at 40 wrestlers with some weight classes consisting of five athletes.

The team kicked off the season at the Model tournament on Nov. 21. They walked away with a second place, despite only having had two weeks of practice heading into this tournament.

The team had a tournament champion in Chet Miller. The RMS Yellow Jackets wrestlers also had nine members finish third-place in their divisions and two with second-place finishes.

The nine wrestlers who finished in third are Devin Darden, Tyler Jones, Tristan Adams, Draven Smith, Jason Lankford, Chris Owens, Marlon Morales, Dakota Wilson, and Ben Lewis.

The two who finished second are Wade Mazurek and Triston Morrow.

Also the team had multiple wrestlers having to do up to five matches before the night was over. One athlete even wrestled 18 total rounds.

The team is showing early improvement from last year as they topped their seventh place finish at the Model tournament last year.

Kody Holder, Kreg Hollis, Tyler Jones, Jason Lankford, Ben Lewis, Wade Mazurek, Chet Miller, Marlon Morales, Tristan Morrow, Chris Owens and Ethan Pinkerton;

Wesley Ragsdale, Dylan Roberson, Zack Sherman, Draven Smith, Tyler Snell, Zack Thompson, Kevin De La Torre, Brandon Welchel, Dakota Wilson, Jason Wolfe and Tyler Baulding-Woods.

The RMS team also attended the Wolf Pack Invitational on Dec. 5 and had an away match at Armurchee High School on Dec. 8.

The team's next match is Thursday at Rome High School.
