The Cedartown Middle School faculty, staff and administration are already eagerly anticipating the 2010-2011 school year.

A part of this focus is on a new program named the VIP program. VIP stands for “very involved partner,” which is what CMS wants from the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family members of every student that attends CMS.

“We are committed to working with all those who touch the lives of CMS students to provide the necessary support and resources which will enable our students to achieve academic excellence and personal growth,” said CMS Principal Marvin Grayer. “Research shows a direct link between parental involvement and academic achievement.”

Endless opportunities exist for parents and relatives to get involved. CMS is looking for volunteers for school beautification, mentoring, assisting in the media center, chaperoning school events, serving as hall or cafeteria monitors, parent communication, parent resource room and many other projects.

“A pledge to volunteer just one hour per day, week or month will go a long way in the academic and social development of each child at CMS,” Grayer said.

Contact Gail Conner, Parent Involvement Specialist at the CMS Main Office at 770-749-8850, or contact Grayer directly at mgrayer@polk.k12.ga.us for more information or to sign up for the VIP program. All volunteers are required to adhere to the Polk School District screening process for volunteers.
