Playing in a group with Rockmart and the Cedartown Top Dawgs, the Xtreme won their three games by a total of 39-10.
“We came into this tournament with two goals,” coach Shane Lee said. “Our first goal was to win the District 5B championship, and the second goal was to win the overall District 5 title. We reached one of our goals. I am very proud of our team.”
After winning the ‘B’ group title, Cedartown attempted to win the District 5 crown, but lost to the Bartow Blue.
According to Lee, the tournament was set up with three different groups based on the population of the towns they represented. Bartow Blue came from the largest group while Cedartown represented the second biggest group and Bremen the third.
In ‘B’ group action, the Xtreme knocked off Rockmart 19-4 in three innings in their first game. In the second contest, they won 6-2 over the Top Dawgs. That skirmish was stopped after four innings due to a time limit rule.
In the championship group game, the Xtreme cruised past the Top Dawgs 14-4.
The Xtreme advanced to the Class ‘B’ state tournament, which was held last weekend.
“I would like to thank our girls, the parents, grandparents and everyone that has been a part of Cedartown Xtreme,” Lee said. “A special thank you goes to coach Stacey Bowman and coach Odell Abram for all they do with this team.”
Members of the Xtreme are Shana Abram, Tia Covington, Skylar Rogers, Josie Allen, Maddie Bowman, Tamara Brown, Blair Bedford, Amber Timms, Autumn Scofield and Lizzie Lee.
