A state task force to combat the growth and use of marijuana was successful in its recent coverage of Polk and Haralson Counties, according to one local law officials.

Polk County Sheriff Kelly McLendon confirmed members of the Govenor’s Task Force for Drug Suppression were flying in helicopters over the area for the past two weeks looking for marijuana plants.

McLendon said the result was 8,000 plants were taken in the two counties. He said the figures break down into 4,800 plants being discovered in Polk County and 3,200 plants found in Haralson County.

He said three people were arrested in this county during the flyover. Two were arrested on site and one turned himself in later, he said.

The sheriff did not have the names of all three suspects available. The three face marijuana possession charges, he said.
