At a parents meeting last Monday, RYSA president Bill Sherfesee expressed his satisfaction with Georgia Soccer and announced that children can still register for this season through Saturday.
“Georgia Soccer has been very accommodating,” Sherfesee said of the large youth soccer organization that the RYSA became affiliated with this year. “So much so that it has almost been overwhelming.”
Children must turn 4-years-old before January 1, 2011 in order to play and be no older than 12-years-old.
Registration is available at the City of Rockmart Administration Building on Piedmont Avenue or at Sew Purdy on the corner of Marble Street and Elm Street. The cost is $50 per child and a copy of their birth certificate is required.
Each player will be registered with Georgia Soccer and be insured through the organization for the season.
Those interested in coaching in any capacity must attend certification by Georgia Soccer this Saturday at Scoggins Hall and register ahead of time. This includes head coaches and assistant coaches.
Player registration will also take place during the clinic.
The season will begin in September, which is National Soccer Month, and opening day will take place around Sept. 11.
“Our soccer program has grown so much over the last few years and we think it would be a lot better if everybody would grow with us,” Rockmart recreation coordinator Jeff Hulsey said.
A referee clinic will also be held in the near future.
