Thurmond is set to address the conference Wednesday morning to speak about the Georgia Work$ initiative. Thurmond created the Georgia Work$ program in 2003 to allow unemployed workers to receive job training and a stipend to offset expenses like childcare and transportation.
The conference is sponsored by the National Association of State Workforce Agencies and the U.S. Department of Labor.
Thurmond, a Democrat, is challenging Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson in the Nov. 2 general election.
